FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What happens in the first session?
Your first 50-minute session is a low-pressure chat to discuss what brought you in, explore therapy options, review confidentiality, get to know your therapist, and ensure you are a good fit. No commitment needed—we collaborate on next steps.
How often would I meet my therapist?
Changing your life takes time, commitment, and regular support. At Beretti Therapy, we therefore recommend weekly sessions, ideally on the same day and at the same time. This consistency brings structure and predictability to the therapeutic process, helping you build a routine that supports your emotional and mental wellbeing. Having a regular, protected time for therapy can also reduce anxiety about “fitting it in” and strengthens the ongoing therapeutic relationship. Over time, this regularity can foster trust, accountability, and deeper, more lasting change. We also recognise that life can be unpredictable and busy. We will always aim to be as flexible and accommodating as possible, within what is clinically appropriate. The regularity and timing of your sessions will be discussed together in your first appointment, so we can find an arrangement that works for you.
Am I going to have to do work outside of sessions?
Making changes between sessions is an important part of therapy, and we know this can sometimes be the hardest bit. Therapy is most effective when you feel motivated to take what you explore in sessions and gently apply it to your day‑to‑day life. Even small experiments and reflections between appointments can help deepen the work you do with your therapist. At Beretti Therapy, we always take a compassionate, empathetic, and patient stance, supporting you to make changes at a pace that feels manageable and respectful of your circumstances. Some therapies, such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), may involve more structured tasks or reflections between sessions. We will always discuss this with you and make sure that any therapy approach we use feels helpful, realistic, and tailored to your needs.

What if my therapist and I are not a good fit?
It’s common; we’ll adapt our style (e.g., more directive CBT or exploratory narrative therapy) or refer you to another Beretti clinician. Your comfort is key for effective therapy in London.
Is therapy confidential?
Yes, all sessions are strictly confidential under GDPR and HCPC/BPS standards, with secure handling of your information. We only share details if there’s imminent risk of harm to you or others, always discussing it first where possible—outlined in your therapy agreement.
